Environmental Benefits of Underfloor Heating

Yes, it’s luxurious, yes it saves on clutter with no radiators, but underfloor heating also has some environmental benefits, which we will be discussing in this blog. How about we get started, and you can then make an informed decision on whether underfloor heating is going to benefit your home. If you’re passionate about sustainability and the environment, then this might be for you.

Energy Efficient

As well as being seen as a luxury heating product, underfloor heating is also a great way of being more efficient with your energy usage. We know that the majority of people in the UK use radiators to heat their home, but they are not always the best and most practical way of providing warmth. To achieve a certain temperature the radiators may need to be turned on higher and it can take a while for the heat to spread evenly across the whole room.

Underfloor heating, however, does offer a better standard of heating that is more effective and works at a lower temperature than radiator heating. Keep in mind that what temperature the underfloor heating reaches will be largely determined by the type of flooring you have. If you have vinyl or carpet flooring you won’t get any higher than 27 degrees, a tiled floor will reach almost 30. Unlike radiator heating, underfloor heating will use less energy the lower the heat required - so it’s really energy efficient.

Effectively Heat Large Rooms

What you will find is that with a radiator heated room, the majority of the heat will stay around the radiator itself, but with underfloor heating it will heat all of your room at the same time, there won’t be any cold areas so the heat is dispersed throughout rather than being more in one area. The heat retention underfloor heating provides should keep your rooms warmer for longer too so you save money as well as energy.

Heat Your Home Quickly

Underfloor heating doesn’t just heat the room for longer, it’s also quicker to heat up. It doesn’t need as much energy to heat up quickly but does it cover a larger area of space. Once it’s reached the maximum heating required it will not need as much energy to keep it at that temperature.

Types of Underfloor Heating

You can have underfloor heating using either water or electric based methods. They both have their own advantages and disadvantages, both different types can use renewable energy in order to work and will help the environment if you decide to go down this route. This method of heating could also save you money on your heating bills. You also use solar panels or wind turbines, water can be utilised using heat pumps, you can even have them installed on your property, in the garden. Underfloor heating uses air that is much clearer than that used by radiators which can give you poor air quality which isn’t good for anyone’s health.
