Choosing the Right Plumber to Fit Your Bathroom

You’re about to have your bathroom refitted. You’d love to have it looking nice and you’ve spent time and effort in choosing the right type of bathroom for your needs. All you’re waiting for now is the right plumber so you can have all fixtures and fittings in place.

However, you’re not sure who you can hire. After all, there are a lot of bathroom fitters and plumbers out there who seem qualified, but are they the right fit for you? How can you make the right choice without it coming back to haunt you later?

This guide is all about choosing the right plumber for your bathroom. We know how much you care and we also know how hard it is to get someone that you trust, the nightmares people have experienced using the wrong plumber and how a few simple checks can make all the difference.

Recommendations

Ask around, who do you know who’s had a bathroom fitted recently? Did the plumber do a good job, were they friendly, communicative, did they keep you informed along the way of what they were doing? How can you get the right recs from friends?

By asking, you’re going to open up an honest conversation about who they hired and what they were like. This is more likely with someone you know, that’s whether it’s friends or work colleagues or neighbours. They’ll open up to you and if you ask the right questions, you’ll get some really interesting answers. Ask whether they were timely, whether they kept them informed, did they tidy up after themselves or leave a mess for you to clear up? Were there any problems after the fitting, did everything work okay, or did you have issues with the plumbing itself?

Is the plumber they used, who you’re now quite keen on hiring, registered with a recognised tradesmen scheme or registered as gas safe with a government-approved organisation? If they have joined a scheme such as the ones we’ve described they should have been vetted and provided proof that they have the required skills to carry out the job and proved they can carry out complex work that would need experience and knowledge.

Check up on your chosen plumbing business on trusted websites that list their business which will include user reviews. Social media is another useful tool and by trawling Facebook and Twitter you’ll find people’s comments on how they found them to deal with. Nobody holds back on social media, so if they’re a wrong ‘un, it’ll soon come up.

Get some quotes

Try to get at least 3 quotes from 3 different plumbers that you can take a look at. Ask them for a break down of what the service entails and what it includes. Be wary of anyone asking for all cash upfront, they should offer a 50/50 deal, with a 50% non-refundable deposit, or affordable instalments with a final payment at the end.

References

Ask them for references from previous customers, consider the recommendations from friends and family and see if they match up to what other customers have said about them in the past. If you carry out all this research prior to hiring someone, you may find that the person you hire is the right person for the job, and you have a stress free plumbing system alongside a beautifully and correctly installed bathroom.
