Choosing the Right Boiler For Your Home
If you’re thinking of changing your current boiler, then it’s important you choose the right one so you avoid problems down the road, and that your home is safe. It’s important to think through the range of options out there so you make the right decision. We believe it’s important to think things through carefully, but not to worry about it unduly, as you will have to stick with what you currently use anyway, that is unless you’re thinking of changing to a new renewable energy source.
Choosing the Right Heating Engineer
Firstly, get a professional engineer who understands about boilers and has worked with them, and also comes with the qualifications and experience you’d expect from a trained professional. Then he or she will need to check whether or not you have a copper cylinder. This could be removed so you can instal a combination boiler in its place. Combi boilers, as they are known, are much better than the old boilers, this is because they are far more efficient, in that hot water is almost instant, and you won’t have to wait a while for your taps, showers and baths to fill up with hot water. You’ll also find that you save on energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint, which is always good news.
Choosing a Combi Boiler
There are so many combi boilers out there, you may find it hard to decide which one is right for you. If you’re on a budget and worried about how much you should pay, keep in mind there are eco-friendly boilers out there that are cheaper options. It’s simply a case of shopping around for the best buy and speaking to local engineers who can give you a quote on the best value combi boiler including installation costs.
Factors to Consider Before You Buy a Combi
There are certain factors to consider before you buy a combi boiler - one of the most obvious would be to think about the size of your family. If you have young children, then you’ll need more instant hot water, after all that’s a lot of water you’ll be needing as and when you need it.
A combi boiler gives you hot water round the clock, so if you do have a young family you need never worry that you’ll run out.
More Than One Bathroom?
Another thing to consider is whether you have more than one bathroom, the quantity of water could be an issue, because members of your household could be using a shower, bath or sink simultaneously. With this in mind you may need to consider a larger boiler to meet your family’s needs.
Size and Number of Radiators
Radiators are something else to think about, if you have mostly large radiators then you may all need a larger boiler to accommodate them. Most combi boilers will deliver the same amount of heat to all your radiators, except if it’s a smaller boiler and you have many large-sized radiators, then that won't necessarily be the case.
Boiler Kilowatts
KW stands for kilowatts and all boilers will go up to about 42kw from a starting point of 24kw. However, all sizes will only deliver 24kw of heat at a time. The reason why some boilers have a higher kw is for the amount of hot water delivered and the amount of water needed at any given time. Two or three showers delivered simultaneously for larger families will need a boiler close to 40kw to accommodate the demand, even more, perhaps up to 42kw if you’re going to be having all the radiators on as well.
