Making the Most of a Small Bathroom

Small bathrooms don’t have to be the headache you think they are. If you’ve moved into a house with a small bathroom and you’re wondering how you’re ever going to be able to use it without feeling claustrophobic and shut in, then do not fear, because we have some tips on how to make the most of a smallish bathroom.

A small bathroom can be comfortable and attractive to spend time in, no matter the size. If you just make the most of storage and use a little creativity, you can create a bathroom that’s aesthetically pleasing and fun to spend time in. Whatever you do will have an impact, so your design decisions need to be carefully thought out.

Wallspace

If you can have some items on the wall rather than on the floor, this will give you more floor space. A corner sink is also a good idea and if you have no shelving behind your toilet, then you could have cupboards underneath your sink where you can store bathroom sundry items. This leaves your floor free of clutter, and also gives the impression the bathroom is bigger with the extra floor space. A towel rail or hooks are an excellent way of keeping towels off the floor and helps remove the temptation to leave them on the floor.

Bathroom Door

You could try redirecting your bathroom door as well simply by making it open outwards rather than in. A shower can also use a shower panel rather than a door that swings, and you can also try using a mirror. A mirror can really create tricks with the light, helping to give the impression of a much bigger room.

Mirrors

A larger mirror will help bounce light through the room, and you could also have one directly facing the entrance of the bathroom so it bounces light in and out giving the impression again of a larger space.

Colour

Colour schemes should be neutral if you can bear it, I know that darker colours may be your thing, and they’re certainly popular right now, but lighter neutral colours will open up a room and make it seem bigger. You could always throw in some colour with towels and accessories.

Don’t underestimate the capacity for a small bathroom to look as beautiful as any larger one. Think clever when you accessorise and decorate, and you have the ability to make your bathroom as luxurious and as beautiful as any large scale bathroom.
