Common Plumbing Repairs We Carry Out

We carry out numerous plumbing repairs for our customers and there are a few common ones that pop up regularly. We thought that we would spend some time today talking to you about some of the most common plumbing repairs we’ve seen over the years. That way, you’ll know where to come if you suffer with such a problem yourself and you’re unsure what to do.

Tap Repairs

Taps are something we take for granted. We turn them on and hey presto - magically water appears and then a simple turn and the water is switched off. We’re lucky that we live in a country where water is so common and so easily accessible. However, sometimes water continues to release itself from the taps even when they’re switched off.

The most obvious leakages are not always simple, but most of them can be repaired with a change of washer or a swift tightening of the tap itself. Sometimes however, only a tap change will suffice because the leak can’t be repaired any other way. You will waste a lot of water if you allow this to continue and in turn could see an increase in your water bills.

Toilet Flush Issues

A faulty flush won't allow water to empty properly and is something you will need to address if you don’t want it to develop into a bigger problem. It is possible to fix yourself but keep in mind that some toilets are made differently and can’t be repaired in the same way as another. Depending on the design you could create more work for yourself by getting it wrong. By making errors while you try to DIY this particular obstacle, you could create more problems which will be even more costly to fix. We recommend that you either make sure you have the right tools to carry out the task or you hire someone like us, professional plumbers who can carry out the whole job safely and accurately.

Radiator Problems

Sometimes our radiators give us problems and one common issue we see a lot of is when one stops working altogether. This is usually down to it needing a power flush because it’s become clogged. There are times though when it isn’t down to a blockage but that the entire radiator needs replacing. Unless you know what you’re doing we suggest you give us a call.

Heating System Issues

If you’re heating isn’t coming on or the radiators aren’t heating up as well as they normally do, it could be that the radiators need bleeding. It is either this or a power flush that will help get rid of the rust and debris from within your radiators so they work as they should once more. Always make sure the heating is switched off if you decide to try doing this yourself, and wear gloves to protect your hands. It could be that this is something you would prefer to hand over to a plumber, we don’t mind, we've done this sort of job many times before.

Boiler Breakdown

A broken down boiler means no hot water or heating, which is a big problem, especially when this happens in winter. Your boiler may need to be replaced if it’s quite old and if you do replace it then you will probably save money on bills with a newer model. Modern boilers are much better because they conserve energy in a way that older models don’t. So despite the initial investment, you will save money over time in cheaper heating bills.

Sometimes however, you simply need a repair, possibly the replacement of a valve or other boiler part, and we usually advise calling one of us out to your homes so we can do it safely.
